If you’re not doing search engine optimization right now, you are going to be behind the rest of the pack within the next few years.  No, not everyone is doing SEO right now, but many businesses are, and as you would expect, when everyone knows about something, it’s too late for those who just heard about it.

SEO or search engine optimization is a part of an internet marketing strategy. It refers to the process of getting your website to rank higher in Google.  You are probably already aware most people go online first, and most of them start with Googling for what they need to learn about businesses in their local area

Did you know that 97% of all consumers do this?

If Everyone is Going Online First, How do You get Noticed?

There are many strategies you can use, and what works is changing all the time.  You see, consumers make the rules about who is successful online.  Right now, Google meets consumer demands better than any other search engine.  It accounts for 80% of US traffic and 90% of global search traffic.  Bing (MSN) and Yahoo! have small market shares and are practically irrelevant.

enter-googleSince Google is the most in demand search engine, it makes the rules about what results you see first.  Unfortunately, while it provides public guidelines about what it is doing, it often does not release specifics.  Google’s algorithm, the methodology it uses to rank websites, is composed of 200 – 300 factors.  The algorithm is kept top secret – not even Google’s employees know it.  Each year, 15,000 changes to it are tested, 200 or so are implemented, and you publicly hear about 10 of them.

SEO, or search engine optimization, is the process of constantly testing and learning about those rules through trial and error.  Professionals discover what strategies work best, and those who discover the best strategies run the most profitable businesses.

How does SEO Work?

Because Google’s algorithm is top secret, everybody has researched their own strategies and has a slightly different approach.  However, in general, back linking is the place to start.  Most companies build links manually, which takes endless hours of effort and research.  A rare few have automated systems which make the process go much faster.

The more back links you get, the better.  As the number of back links you get increases, so does your ranking.  Once you rank on the first page of Google, you should notice additional traffic to your website.  That increase in traffic leads to additional sales, and voila – you are now more profitable!

The reason you hire an expert to perform this service is that back links from sites related to your niche, sites that do not appear to be spam, and from a diverse array of sites across the web leads to the quickest rankings growth.  Professionals have databases with thousands of websites that are constantly monitored and updated for maximum effectiveness, and that takes a ton of ongoing time and research.

But, once you rank on the first page of Google, your business should notice bottom line growth.  Ranking on the second page or later won’t make any difference because 98% of all traffic comes from the first page.  Once you, as an electronics manufacturer, dominate your geographic region’s keywords, you can sit back and enjoy the additional profitability, or you can move on to the next one and grow further!  The choice is yours!
